Uncertain Order in the Small Things.

Seeing the less obvious, is observing the small things that move constantly and in transition. By focusing on the minor, we see the overlooked, the under-assessed, and the mobile. These small moving parts occupy a position, on both sides of the boundary, in the space between being and not being. They are small matters broken apart and thrown to the wind across lands.

In this group of paintings McIntosh explores the relationship between water and paint. Water not merely as a medium, but as an actant—a co-creator in the work. Water does not just sit there; it does things. It possesses a lively materiality that forces humans and environments to react to it. Chemical and physical interaction form altered visual relationships and shifts the changing axes of the artwork. Though formed from the horizontal surface of water, these paintings mimic the cartographic, the top-down perspective that feels detached and analytical.
